Three injured in Highway 126 crash

A 22-year-old Corvallis man was critically injured in a major wreck on Highway 126 east of Sisters Tuesday afternoon. According to Oregon State Police, troopers and emergency personnel responded on April 5, at about 5:21 p.m., to the report of a multiple vehicle crash on Highway 126 near milepost 98 at the intersection of Holmes/Fryrear Road). Preliminary investigation revealed that a 1998 Ford Escort sedan was traveling southbound on Holmes Road when it failed to obey the stop sign at the intersection with Highway 126. As the Ford attempted to cross Highway 126 to Fryrear Road, it was struck in the driver's side by a westbound 2015 Toyota 4runner. The Ford spun around and crashed through a fence on the southwest corner of the intersection. After impacting the Ford, the Toyota spun out and was struck on its driver's side by a westbound 1997 Jeep Cherokee. The Jeep and Toyota came to rest in the eastbound lanes of Highway 126. The driver of the Ford, Tyler J. Myers, age 22, of Corvallis, was taken by air ambulance to St. Charles Bend for life threatening injuries. The driver of the Toyota, Jacquelyn A. Ekern, age 49, of Redmond, was taken by ground ambulance to St. Charles Redmond for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Jeep, Hayden Jones, age 20, of Sisters, was taken by ground ambulance to St. Charles Bend for non-life threatening injuries Highway 126 was closed for about an hour and a half before one lane was opened. OSP was assisted by the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office, Cloverdale Fire Department, and Sisters Fire Department.
