Driver extricated from three-car wreck

Fire personnel extracted one driver from a vehicle involved in a three-car crash on Highway 20 on Monday, December 18. Cloverdale and Sisters firefighters were involved in their weekly training exercises on Monday, December 18, at 7 p.m., when they were called out to respond to a three-car wreck on Highway 20 at Plainview Road. According to Cloverdale Fire District reports, the wreck involved a Subaru Outback, a Toyota Camry and a Chevy pickup truck, and two of those vehicles had collided head-on at highway speeds. The single occupant of the pickup truck was extricated from the vehicle by Cloverdale Fire personnel. The driver of the Subaru and the pickup were transported to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend by Sisters Camp-Sherman Fire District ambulances. The three occupants of the Toyota Camry were checked out by Bend Fire Ambulance personnel and determined to be uninjured. Cloverdale Fire Chief Thad Olsen said, "A rapid response by both Cloverdale and Sisters fire districts made a positive impact on the outcome. Units were on scene within five minutes and fire personnel worked the scene for an hour." Chief Olsen reminded drivers to turn on their headlights during inclement weather, and noted that "winter weather conditions require drivers to be diligent of the conditions and other drivers." The crash is under investigation by the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office and Oregon State Police.
